Comfest

For those of you who don't live in Columbus, Comfest is short for community festival and tons of people go (mainly hippies and hippies at heart) and there are tons of booths set up by local stores.
My favorite booth. I try to make my room always smell like
incense.

My Sister getting a henna tattoo, she wants a similar real
one.

There were also a bunch of street artists

Playing ninja was really popular and fun.

HEY LOOK!

I made shorts which is really not that impressive but I promised myself I'd have at least three original posts that aren't recipies up by Saturday. So I got these as pants from Salvation Army for $2.50 they were way to short so I cut them into shorts and they are my new favorite pair! Seriously, I have been living in these shorts all summer. A great tip I figured out is buy pants a (European) size too large, I usually really like tight pants but I hate tight shorts they usually just wind up looking slutty. For example I buy my pants 26 and my shorts 27.

Best shorts EVER

Lime Tart

I just made a delicious tart! Teehee all of this Harry Potter reading is making me feel British, but I digress, the tart was really easy to make and only took about 30 minutes max and the cleanup was not bad at all, and this is coming from someone who loves to cook but hates cleaning so I just avoid cooking. After I made this I thought about how good it would be to put 1/4 cup of toasted coconut in the crust or bake in a surprise jam bottom between the crust and custard... mmm.

I tried to make it look pretty…
Ingredients:
7 Tablespoons Butter
1 1/2 Cups Crushed Graham Crackers
1/4 Cup Powdered Sugar
1 Cup Milk
5 Tablespoons Sugar
1 Tablespoon Cherry Vodka
3 Egg Yolks
1 Tablespoon Corn Starch
1 Tablespoon Flour
1/2 Lime

Directions:
Crust: Preheat the oven to 350º in a small saucepan melt 6 tablespoons of butter and add graham crackers and powdered sugar, mix until even in consistency. Put into a 8 or 9 inch pie pan (or spring form pan if you want it to look extra nice) and using the back of a measuring cup compact the crust and push it up the sides. I forgot to time how long I put it in the oven but I pulled it out when my kitchen smelled like graham crackers probably 7-10 minutes. Then put on cooling rack to cool

Filling: In the same saucepan (no graham cracker crumbs please!) put in 1 cup of milk 1/4 cup of sugar and the zest of half of the lime (make sure there is no rind or things will turn very bitter very quickly) bring to a boil. In a small mixing bowl put in 3 egg yolks and the remaining sugar and mix until thick, then add the cornstarch and flour, mix until well blended. Then add the boiling milk stirring constantly so you don't make your custard into scrambled eggs (I've done it) then strain back into the pan. Bring mixture to 160º and add in lime juice and vodka (I used my grandma's homemade) and dump into the crust and put in the fridge until chilled.

Random Pictures

Whenever I look for pictures to put on here I always find some really beautiful, unrelated pictures so here are some I found when I was doing the lightning post.

HARRY POTTER

So I haven't been on in a while because I'm trying to read all of the Harry Potter books this summer and I would just like to say they're so addicting. Oh my gosh I'm in love but I wish I would of read the books before I saw the movies, like always the books are much better. I'm already on book four, I'll have to go buy more at Half Price.

Chloé Spring 2011

Ok so I know it's sort of late to be uploading Spring 2011 looks when we're already in Resort 2012 but I don't really keep up with fashion, I know some trends but other than that I'm clueless. I was on the Chloé website today and I couldn't resist.
I would so wear a look like this to school. I need a giant
sweater.

If only I had a dress like this for prom...

My. Favorite. Dress. Ever.

*sigh* I wish I could sew like that. Maybe later this week I'll show you the extent of my sewing "talents."

Despite My Best Efforts…

I had to go MIA for a few days, between summer hanging out with friend and babysitting there just aren't enough hours in the day. I also got surgery on my mouth which was no fun I had an impacted tooth so they had to cut out part of my gums to pull the other one down. It was really scary but I had to put on a brave face and deal with it because my teeth have never been perfect and I just want perfect teeth I think it would really improve my confidence for college. Not that I'm shy or I don't like to smile because of them but it's just always been a major insecurity for me.

In other news last night I went to the dollar theater (I refuse to go to AMC for $9 when I can just wait a month and go to the dollar theater for $1.50) and I saw limitless. It was so good like I know all of the negative effects the pill had on his life but I still want it. I wish I could give you some formal review but I just don't have the writing skill to do that.

Tonight after my surgery I saw Hanna and just like Limitless it was an excellent movie. Since it was monday the tickets were only 75 cents and my sister and I and our friend went to this really good indian restaurant where if you had movie tickets you got $1 off per ticket so we basically got the tickets for free. Unfortunately since I was all drugged up I didn't have much of an appetite so I only ate two pieces of nann and some rice.

Rachel: I feel so grounded in the countryside. The city stifles me, emotionally creatively, spiritually. Places like this bring us closer to God.
Hanna: God?
Rachel: Well, not any modernistic sense. Buddha, Krishna, the God within. Whatever you believe in. What do you believe in Hanna?

Raspberry Chocolate Cookies

Ok so normally I would put up a picture but I'm going to be honest… These cookies are not pretty, they're delicious but not pretty. So here's a picture of just raspberries.

Ingredients:
1 1/4 Cup of Flour
1/2 teaspoon of Baking Soda
1/2 teaspoon of Salt
1 Stick of Butter (room temp)
1/2 Cup of Sugar
1/2 Cup of Brown Sugar
1 Egg
1/2 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
1/4 Cup of Raspberries
1/2 Cup of Chocolate Chips (white or semi-sweet)

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 375
Mix dry ingredients in a small bowl.
Using a stand or hand mixer cream the butter and sugars.
Next add the egg and vanilla and raspberries and mix until raspberries have broken up.
Add dry ingredients until well-incorporated.
Add the chocolate and hand mix the chocolate in.
Place on a well greased baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.

The Third Beginning

OK I'll admit it. I have a problem. I get a new blog, I obsess over it for a month and then I forget about it and leave it like a toy the day after Christmas. This is my third blog this year (which is pretty bad considering it's only June) but I promise to be better this time. NO MORE NEGLECTED BLOGS! So this time around the blog will only be about things I truly love, things like music and sewing and cooking and other random things that make me smile. I want this to be one of those websites that if you're bored then you can come here and just smile. My goal is to make six posts a week and I have a few backups saved to my computer incase I get lazy.

So say hello to my summer journal.

P.S. Could anyone tell me where this picture came from? I can't figure it out. Thanks!
